Today, always, I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress: my God, in Him will I trust” (Psalm 91).
I will “Dwell in the secret place of the Most High, and abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
I will trust Him. His truth He has revealed. I will do this seeing also that I dwell in a land of “deadly pestilence,” where “snares are set in my way, where there is terror by night – arrows meant to my harm – pestilence in places where I cannot see for the darkness – where destruction wastes at noon.
The Psalmist shows me that I am in a war-zone; but safe under the care of the Almighty.
“Because; I have made Him my habitation; no evil shall befall me, neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. He will further, “give his angels charge over me.”
When we gather in worship, we sometimes sing:
“Amazing love, how can it be, that thou my God should die for me. Amazing love, I know its true – and I just want to honor You; in all I do, to honor You.”
We will not, however, ‘Honor Him in all we do.’
A major factor of our personal salvation involves our getting ourselves in the troubles from which He delivers us. This is how we begin to understand His amazing love.
Despite my failures, and sometime in their wake, I am reminded by the ever faithful Holy Spirit, to run to Him: even as I sometimes feel, like Adam did, that I must hide from Him, think of an excuse: “No!”
He is sometimes like a consuming fire: then I will run into that Fire – and come out as gold, glowing from mercy found; salvation taken effect.
And I–I will praise Him. I will confess to others of His mercy. I will boast that there is none other like Him. I will, because He fixes His love on me, because of the hope within which bears me up. Always aware of His great salvation, I will tell the whole world to look to Him and live.
His Son said that He so “loved the world that He gave that Son, that whosoever believeth should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
C.S. Lewis concluded that it is not that we have a soul, but that we are a soul which has a body. The body, according to God, will be resurrected and the soul reunited to dwell forever. Will I dwell in an unending war-zone or in the place Jesus “prepared for those who love Him?” (John 14:3).
